During the end of the pageant, Gazini Ganados will crown her successor as the new Miss Universe Philippines, who will then represent the Asian pageant powerhouse at the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.
The shortlisted contestants are being mentored by none other than Shamcey Supsup Lee, who now serves as the National Director of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant. Shamcey Supsup was crowned as Miss Universe Philippines by Binibining Pilipinas Organization in 2011 and eventually finished as the third runner up at Miss Universe 2011.
Let us meet the contestants vying to wear the sash of Philippines at Miss Universe 2020-
Philippines has won four Miss Universe crown till date under the representation of Gloria Diaz, Margarita Morgan, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray. However these queens were chosen by Binibining Pilipinas national pageant, and hence this is the very first time that the representative of Philippines is going to be chosen by a very novel pageant. Who do you think has it all to win the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 crown? Do let us know by voting for your favorite contestant in the poll conducted by The Kaleidoscope of Pageantry given at the link below.
Miss Diva 2020 will be the 8th edition of Miss Diva pageant which is scheduled to be held on 22nd February, 2020. During the conclusion of the pageant, the outgoing Miss Universe India, Vartika Singh, who placed as a semi-finalist in Miss Universe 2019 pageant, will pass on her crown to her successor. The winner of Miss Diva 2020 pageant will represent India at Miss Universe 2020. In addition, Shefali Sood will crown her successor, who will represent India at the Miss Supranational 2020 pageant, which will be held in Poland. This will be the first edition of Miss Diva under Liva Fluid Fashion as the Yamaha Fascino stint with the said pageant ends.
After analyzing the contestants through various videos, social media interactions as well as advocacies, we are finally here with our final picks for Miss Diva 2020 crown, so without further delay let us begin!
10. Archana Ravi
23 years old, Archana Ravi is not a newbie in pageants. Having represented India at Miss Super Globe International 2018 and having won the first runner up position we can say, she has the exposure of knowing how a pageant candidate should be tailored. She has initiated a campaign called “Buddy Project” wherein she works to empower underprivileged children. Apart from that she has also been part of a Kannada movie. She is confident when she speaks but her only drawback is her styling.
9. Anisha Sharma
Having met Anisha in Femina Miss India Chhattisgarh 2019 auditions, I must say that she has come a really long way. From her walk to talk to posture, she has shown an immensely brilliant transformation. While I haven’t really heard her speaking for a very long duration, knowing the fact that she was titled as one of the best speakers at the High Court, I am impressed with her profile, expecting a decent performance from her in the finals.
8. Vaishnavi Ganesh
18 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall Vaishnavi comes across as a strong contestant in the competition. She is confident on the runway and give fierce vibes with her gaze. She is also photogenic in her stance. However, if she comes back for pageants the next time with even more preparations, polishing her skills, she can win one of the crowns.
7. Shreya Poonja
Winning Campus Princess is not a cakewalk, and winning the same she has established her worth. Shreya Poonja, who is only 19 and stands 5 feet 8 inches tall looks natural, determined and confident from all the recent preliminary events we have witnessed till date.
6. Arshina Sumbul
21 years old Arshina Sumbul holds the title of Miss Elite Rajasthan 2018. I really appreciate her vivacious aura, she seems to be pretty easy going as her live sessions indicate her to be. Further, she looks confident in her own skin.
5. Aavriti Chaudhary
21 years old Aavriti Chaudhary is a classic example of raw Indian beauty. I love her skin tone and natural curly hair. She sets the fire on stage when she walks and looks incredibly fierce and sexy in all the photoshoots. She speaks well as well. However, she needs to be more prompt and spontaneous while answering tricky question.
4. Lavanya Gunasekar
24 years old, Lavanya is a doctor by profession, which makes her profile strong alone when considered from the perspective of IMG at Miss Universe. She is not only a highly eloquent speaker but is also a beautiful example of how dynamic a modern woman could be. I really appreciate all her photoshoots and if she wins the crown of Miss Universe India I would be really happy.
3. Roshni Sharma
Winning the title of Miss Photogenic at any pageant is not a cakewalk and when it is Miss Diva or Femina Miss India it does matter for we have seen candidate like Vartika Singh winning this subtitle and even winning the crown. Roshni is a spontaneous and confident speaker and stands for a wonderful advocacy where she teaches slum children arts and rugby. Having such a modelesque face, Roshni could do wonders at both Miss Universe and Miss Supranational.
Miss Supranational India 2020- Rushali Yadav
22 years old, Rushali Yadav is one of the most wisest choice for Miss Supranational pageant. She has a beautiful face and she knows how to project her features in shoots, thanks to her second runner up stint at Cycle 4 of India’s Next Top Model. She has the experience and exposure to present herself with fierceness and confidence. She knows how to kill it on stage.
Miss Universe India 2020- Adline Castelino
21 years old Adline is a model by profession. She is associated with the cause to uplift and empower the female farmers of the country. She is a perfect blend of grace, eloquence, spontaneity and fierceness. Her biggest asset is her flexibility to shape herself according to the situations both on the runway as well as on the camera or even off the camera. She has been consistent throughout the pageant. Her styling has been impeccable and if she is given the chance to wear the sash of India at Miss Universe I am sure, she will put back India on the map of the said pageant.
So these were my favorites for the crown. Also do not forget to watch my final review on Miss Diva at my YouTube Channel and do SUBSCRIBE to the channel. Until then, good bye! 🙂
Céline Van Outysel of Antwerp Crowned Miss Belgium 2020
Céline Van Outysel of Antwerp was crowned as Miss Belgium 2020 in the 52nd edition of the Miss België pageant which took place on 11th January, 2020 at the Plopsaland Theater in De Panne, Belgium. She succeeds Elena Castro Suarez, the outgoing Miss Belgium titleholder, who represented Belgium at Miss World 2019 pageant. Céline Van Outysel will now represent Belgium at Miss Universe 2020 or Miss World 2020.
The newly crowned Miss Belgium 2020, Céline Van Outysel is 23 years old and is a lawyer by profession. “I fell on the podium myself tonight and is, therefore, the best example that you just have to get up when you fall, even in life,” said the new Miss Belgium. For the fifth time in six years, Miss Belgium comes from the province of Antwerp.
During the same pageant, Celest Decaestecker of West Flanders was titled as the first runner up. If the newly crowned Miss Belgium is unable to compete at both Miss World and Miss Universe pageants due to clash of dates, then the first runner up shall be representing Belgium at one of the pageants. Meanwhile, Anicca Van Hollebeke was adjudged as the second runner up, Laura Vanquaillie was announced as the third runner up and Elize Baron finished as the fourth runner up to Miss Belgium 2020.
As the decade ends, it is time for Binibining Pilipinas to bid adieu to the Miss Universe franchise. The news of Binibining Pilipinas renouncing the Miss Universe Philippines franchise erupted as a volcano in the pageant industry. Led under the supervision of Stella Araneta, Binibining Pilipinas produced four Filipino Miss Universe alongside nine runners up and ten semi-finalists at the Miss Universe pageant. The country became a powerhouse at the said pageant while it continued its ten years placement streak, a feat which many powerhouse countries fail to achieve.
However, subsequent to many speculations few weeks ago until it was made official, Binibining Pilipinas publicly announced that the Miss Universe franchise no longer belongs to them. Soon the new Miss Universe Philippines Organization announced that the newly shortlisted contestants will be mentored by none other than Shamcey Supsup Lee, who will now serve as the National Director of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant and will begin her quest to find Miss Universe Philippines 2020 who shall be representing the Philippines at Miss Universe 2020 pageant. Shamcey Supsup was crowned as Miss Universe Philippines by Binibining Pilipinas Organization in 2011 and eventually finished as the third runner up at Miss Universe 2011.
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization will also witness the involvement of Albert Andrada, who will be serving as the Design Council Head, Jonas Gaffud , who will take the charge of Creative Director and Lia Ramos, who will serve as the Head of Women Empowerment Committee and Charity, looking after the advocacy of the delegates. They will be joined by Atty. Nad Bronce, who will be serving as the Head of Legal Affairs alongside Mario Garcia, who takes the charge of Business Development & Marketing Head.
Beginning it’s new venture, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization took over the social media handle to express, “The Miss Universe Organization is thrilled to announce its partnership with the Miss Universe Philippines Organization – a fresh team that will lead the country towards its continued quest to share the beauty and grace of the Filipina to the rest of the world,” the post on MUP Facebook page read. Rooted in the same strong foundations that have earned the country title after title in the past half century, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization is poised to bring the Miss Universe franchise to greater heights.”

New Age Pageant Queens or a Strategy to Cope with Declining Viewership?
2019 witnessed one of the most historic year for pageantry as winners of the most reputed national and international pageants crowned black women as the winners. This all started in September 2018, when Miss America Organization crowned a black woman from North Carolina named Nia Franklin, marking the beginning of a pioneering 2019 pageant circuit for black ladies. This was later followed by the crowning of Miss Teen USA 2019, Kaliegh Garris who was later joined by Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst. The significance of the Black Girl Reign in the year took over the internet drastically when Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa was crowned as Miss Universe 2019 in the first week of December. Very soon, Miss World Organization as well made a vital move when it decided to crown a black woman, Toni Ann Singh from Jamaica as Miss World 2019.
Now this does calls out for a celebration but let us ponder on the question that crowning all black ladies in the prominent national and international pageants is just a coincidence or a strategy to expand the popularity of the pageants worldwide. It is a universally acknowledged fact that many feminists have often criticized and even questioned the existence of beauty pageants, blaming them to demean and commodify women with respect to their physical appearance. We are currently living in an era where these pageants have time and again moved beyond its accepted notion of beauty and has welcomed women from different ethnicities, gender preferences and culture, however when it comes to the main titleholder, the winner usually is clad in the much accepted standards of beauty and fashion.
Now let us go back to September 2018 when Nia Franklin was crowned as Miss America 2019. Soon after she won the title of Miss America, the social media went crazy appreciating the shifting beauty standards calling Nia a pioneer of new age beauty queens. And this did pioneer a new trend of black women winning many pageants in the days to come. But were those victories merely a coincidence falling in succession or was it a strategically planned move by the respective Organizations to fathom the trending popularity? It is interesting to note the fact that in its 92 editions, Nia Franklin is only the ninth woman to be crowned as a black Miss America, while in its 68 editions Zozibini Tunzi is only the sixth black woman to be crowned as Miss Universe. Pageant after pageant, whenever a black lady won any pageant, the social media went gaga over the change, whereby Miss World was the last pageant to close the season.
Seeing Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey congratulating Zozibini Tunzi, certainly alleviated the already popular Miss Universe pageant in terms of fame. Now coming to the Miss World 2019 pageant, while many people were rooting for India or France for the Miss World crown, Jamaica came in to competition all of a sudden and won it all with her terrific answer. Now we may claim she had the best answer in the final question and answer round, but we have seen many great spokeswomen in the final round who could not win the main title, considering the overall performance in the pageant. Hence, saying it is merely a coincidence would be inane. It could hence be said that Miss World was trying to share the similar popularity at social media which was achieved by its counterpart, Miss Universe Organization a week ago.
Although, pageants have recently sought to put more emphasis on the offstage lives of their contestants, highlighting their accomplishments and charity work instead of only their physical appearances, it is to be pondered that these historic wins come at a time in which the industry is struggling to modernize amid declining viewership. Do you believe the black girl magic of 2019 a coincidence or a strategy to gain worldwide popularity? Do let us know in the comment section!
Talking about pageants and missed out a conversation on evening gowns? Eh! Not going to happen, right? As the decade ends, we are here to reminisce the best gowns of the year, looking at which made us feel “Oh! I need to have this one in my wardrobe.” So what are we waiting for, let us get started!
Miss Universe Thailand, Fahsai Paweensuda Drouin
Thailand might have not won the crown, but it surely won the hearts when she took over the runway in an exuberant glazing red evening gown with a colossal thigh-high slit. This beautiful evening gown was designed by Surface Adhit Dhirakittiwat. The best feature of this awe striking gown was a sequined leg, which made it incredibly unique and impactful at the Miss Universe stage. If observed closely, the elaborate silver crystal beadwork framing the bodice in the design of falling stars was so ensnaring that one could never put off eyes from this amazing masterpiece.
Miss Universe France, Maeva Coucke
One of the most laudable evening gown at the Miss Universe stage, France never disappoints when it comes to the selection of evening gowns. The ivory sequined feathered gown was designed by the renowned Lebanese designer, Ziad Nakad. Not only the colour white emphasized the simplicity and elegance of the lady but the sequins and feathers at the bottom half and sleeves gave her a royal look.
Miss Universe Puerto Rico, Madison Anderson
This beautiful mirrored mosaic gown was designed by Luis Antonio. Not only did the mirrored sequins hugged her body flawlessly but the incredibly fierce column shape of the gown made her look irresistible for the title.
Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray
Talking about the best evening gowns of the year and miss out on Catriona’s masterpiece during her farewell walk? Impossible! For her final walk as Miss Universe, the beauty queen glittered in a blue alon or wave inspired mermaid gown which was titled as “Reflection.” It was designed by none other than Mak Tumang. The evening gown was a combination of the now-iconic Mayon and Adarna, two gowns that Catriona wore when she competed for the Miss Universe 2018, which paid tribute to the country’s Mayon Volcano and Ibong Adarna respectively. The iridescent blue gown was intricately covered in Swarovski crystals and feather appliqués. Loved it completely!
Miss Mexico International, Andrea Toscano
Such a lovely gown! Andrea Toscano wore this sparkling silver gown, which featured stunning silver beaded and pearl sequin applique over a net backdrop. The gown was entirely roofed in beads at the neck lined torso including bell-shaped sleeves.
Miss India World, Suman Rao
Falguin and Shane Peacock knows how to adorn it’s queens with majesty. Dressed in a white silver sequined gown, Suman looked exquisite. Not only the fitting of the gown praiseworthy, but the delicate rhinestones falling from her shoulders portrayed her as highly mesmerizing.
Miss Grand International 2019, Valentina Figueroa
This masterpiece was designed by the renowned Venezuelan designer, Nidal Nouaihed. Although the gown was on style with the swerve of nude gowns, it featured a nude tulle illusion base with outstanding silver sequins right the way through. The gown had a centre front slit and appealing horsehair netting shoulder detail.
Miss Universe Indonesia, Frederika Alexis Cull
This gown was appreciated by everyone around the world! This one-shoulder red and black sequined gown was designed by the celebrated Indonesian designer, Tex Saverio and was inspired by the “Spirit of the Phoenix”, featuring a side-front slit over and above a shoulder fall drape.
Miss International 2019, Sireethorn Leearamwat
Thailand won its first Miss International crown with the lady dressed in blush pink colored evening gown that featured an entirely beaded dress above tulle with feathers. The gown accessorized with armbands in blush pink colored feathers and the sequin applique was brilliantly eyecatching.
Miss World Philippines, Michelle Dee
Francis Libiran never disappoints with his amazing work! The teal colored sequined gown with a front opening, sheer illusion panels, and spectacular full sleeve drapes looked beautiful on Michelle as she took over the Miss World stage.
It’s that time of the year again! Being an Indian, writing about Femina Miss India and Miss Diva has been a maudlin feeling for me. I am more than happy about the fact that Miss Diva Organization is finally happening a year early, which shall give the newly elected Miss Universe India a lot of time to not only undergo extensive training but also build a much required social media momentum. With the beginning of new decade, Miss Diva Organization took a remarkably commendable step by finishing it’s auditioning and shortlisting process in 2019 itself, and promising the commencement of Miss Diva 2020 pageant in the mid-January.
Miss Diva 2020 will be the 8th edition of Miss Diva pageant which is scheduled to be held in February, 2020.
Miss Diva Organization recently unveiled the Top 19 contestants as well as 5 wildcard contestants, one of whom will join the Top 20 of Miss Diva finalists. After going through the social media profile, audition videos and photoshoots of various contestants, I am here with my pre-arrival favourites for Miss Diva 2020, so without further delay, let us delve in!
Potential Top 5 Finalists
Lavanya Gunasekar – This woman is a keeper for Miss Diva Organization. Besides having an accomplished and rich educational background as a doctor, Lavanya is not merely a model but also a dancer and singer. After seeing her talk in the auditions, I am convinced that she is going to go a long way. Will she win Miss Diva 2020? Too early to comment on this question, but I must say she fits the IMG bill very well. Do not be surprised if she makes it to Top 3 of Miss Diva 2020!
Archana Ravi – Another amazing lady I am eyeing on for the title of Miss Diva 2020 as of now. Not only is she photogenic and elegant in her pictures, but she is even better in motion. I love the way she speaks and projects her thoughts. The clarity in her thoughts highlights that her speech is not at all rehearsed but well planned and organized. Would love to see more of her!
Adline Castelino – For people who have known her since many years know her real potential which is yet to be witnessed by the world. This amazing lady has already come a long way, evolving day by day in her eloquence, posture and projection. I cannot wait to see her performance at Miss Diva 2020.
Roshni Sharma – The moment Roshni’s picture went viral on social media, people went gaga over her! She effectively stands out in photoshoots and is certainly going to be benefited in the days to come during Miss Diva pageant for being photogenic. In addition, she speaks spontaneously and confidently, which is truly an asset for her. Would want to see more of her!
Tanya Subramanian – It is a truth universally acknowledged, that no one can ignore a happy woman. The biggest asset of Tanya is her spontaneity, which would never be ignored at any pageant. At this stage, she comes across as a highly natural yet confident woman. If groomed and polished well, she may do great in the days to come!
Nishi Bharadwaj was one of the finalists at Fbb Femina Miss India Haryana when Manushi Chhillar competed and finally won the crown of Miss Haryana and made her ticket to Miss India and eventually Miss World. Having represented India at Miss Earth, Nishi certainly has an edge over other contestants in terms of international pageant exposure, now it is up to her, how she is going to advance further with these privileges.
Rushali Yadav has one of the greatest edge over her fellow contestants as she is a runner up of Indian Television’s most reputed modelling show, which is, India’s Next Top Model. She has a great swimsuit body and looks commendable in her photoshoots.
Rashalika Sabharwal has an amazing fan base in her social media which is surely going to benefit her during the Miss Diva competition, other than that she has a commercially favourable face to shine.
Arshina Sumbul although looks naive but comes across as a fierce crown contender, while I am yet to hear her speak, I would love to see more of her.
Shivangi Sharma has a gorgeous face and holds a prior Femina Miss India Uttarakhand pageant experience. If she polishes her communication skills, she will surely give her fellow contestants a run for money.
So these were my initial favourites for Miss Universe India 2020 and Miss Supranational India 2020 titles. The list is surely going to see some of the changes when the pageant commences, until then stay tuned for more updates and do not forget to share your favourites with us by casting your vote in the link below.
