A’yana Phillips Crowned Miss Universe British Virgin Islands 2018

A’yana Phillips was crowned as Miss Universe British Virgin Islands 2018 on August 5, 2018. She succeeds Khephra Sylvester as the new Miss Universe British Virgin Islands and will now represent British Virgin Islands at Miss Universe 2018, and is now hoping to succeed Demi Leigh Nel Peters of South Africa as the next Miss Universe.

The newly crowned Miss Universe British Virgin Islands 2018, A’yana Philipps, is 22 years old and is a Legal Assistant and a Business Administration student at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College. Besides, she is also a disc jockey who goes by the moniker, Lady Mix.

Soon after her crowning the Vice-chair person of the VI Festivals and Fairs Committee, Xayrna Samuels opined, “We chose A’yana because Helina had already gone and represented the territory internationally so we just decided that we would give A’yana a turn to represent the territory as well. We were not sure if we were getting a budget to do such [pageant] and at the time when we started planning. It would have been too late to go out and start preparing for a show.”

Khephra Sylvester is Miss British Virgin Islands 2017

Khephra Sylvester was crowned Miss British Virgin Islands 2017 during the grand finale of the pageant held on August 6, 2017 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex. Khepra succeeds Erika Creque and will now represent the British Virgin Islands at Miss Universe 2017 and Miss World 2017 Pageants.

During the same event, Helina Hewlett and Ayana Phillip were titled as the first runner up while Lean Francis was adjudged as the second runner up.

Khephra Sylvester was honored with the crown along with more than $5,000 in cash and many precious prizes like Toyota Yaris, jewellery and a $20,000 educational grant.

Subsequent to her win, the newly crowned Miss British Virgin Islands opined, “Oh my goodness, it feels good! At first, I was a little worried [that I would not win]. I was a little nervous, but the judges’ decision touched me when they said ‘Contestant #6. I probably think that my consistency is what helped me to win this title, because I only won two segments. I would assume that I was consistent in the others – high enough to put me to the top.”

Khephra Sylvester was also awarded with subtitles like Best in Intellect and Best in Interview.

Erika Creque Crowned Miss British Virgin Islands 2016

Erika Creque was crowned Miss British Virgin Islands 2016 on July 31, 2016 at the Multipurpose Complex in Road Town. Erika Creque succeeds Adorya Baly as Miss Universe British Virgin Islands and will now represent her nation in the coming edition of Miss Universe, hoping to be crowned by the reigning Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines.

During the coronation night of Miss British Virgin Islands 2016, Reba Thomas was adjudged as the first runner up to Erika Creque. The competition was in favor of Erika Creque right from the beginning as she managed to sweep five awards of the six segments, including best promotional speech, best swimwear, best cultural costume, best talent and best evening wear.

British Virgin Islands has never managed to win a placement or the crown at Miss Universe pageant till date. British Virgin Islands has been competing at Miss Universe pageant since 1976.

Creque aspires to become a Civil Engineer. Currently, she works as a Drafting Technician at an engineering company. She is also a member of Caribbean Youth Environmental Network (CYEN) and the Association of Youth Keepers (AYK).
