Angela Ponce Crowned Miss Universe Spain 2018

Angela Ponce from Seville was crowned as Miss Universe Spain 2018 in the 6th edition of Miss Universe Spain pageant on June 29, 2018 at August Auditorium, Palau Firal i de Congressos in Tarragona. She succeeds Sofía del Prado of Castilla-La Mancha as the new Miss Universe Spain and will now represent Spain at Miss Universe 2018 wherein Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will crown her successor as next Miss Universe.


Angela Ponce has made the history in pageantry by not just being the first transgender to win the Miss Universe Spain title but also by becoming the first official transgender contestant at the Miss Universe pageant. As a pageant veteran, Angela Ponce was also titled as the runner up to Spain’s first Miss World ever, Mireia Lalaguna Royo during the national pageant of Miss Mundo España 2015.

Sofía del Prado Prieto was the last representative from Spain to place at the Miss Universe pageant in 2017 wherein she was adjudged as Top 10 semi-finalist. Spain started participating at the Miss Universe pageant in 1960 and holds the record of winning one Miss Universe crown in the courtesy of Amparo Muñoz Quesada, who was crowned as Miss Universe 1974. The closest Spain came to winning Miss Universe pageant recently was in 2013 when Patricia Yurena Rodríguez Alonso was titled as the first runner up.
