Kelsey Swanson Crowned Miss Rhode Island USA 2017
Kelsey Swanson was crowned as Miss Rhode Island USA 2017 on September 11, 2016 at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence. Kelsey Swanson succeeds Miss Rhode Island USA 2016, Theresa Agonia and will now represent her state Rhode Island, in the coming edition of Miss USA 2017, wherein Deshauna Barber of District of Columbia will pass on her crown to her successor.
At the coronation eve of Miss Rhode Island USA 2017, Asia Turner was titled as the first runner up, Lindsey Bucci was adjudged as the second runner up, Stephanie Santana was announced as the third runner up and Carissa DeSantis finished as the fourth runner up.
During the same event, Alex Papigiotis was crowned as Miss Rhode Island Teen USA 2017. She will represent Rhode Island at Miss Teen USA 2017, whereby Karlie Hay of Texas will crown her successor.
Rhode Island has been comparatively unsuccessful at Miss USA but has been one of the most consistent states since 2000, with four semi-finalist placements and one first runner-up placement. Olivia Culpo is the only Miss USA titleholder from state, who later also went on to win Miss Universe in 2012.
