Erin O’Flaherty Crowned Miss Missouri 2016
Erin O’Flaherty from Darlington was crowned Miss Missouri 2016 on June 18, 2016. Erin O’Flaherty succeeds McKensie Garber, Miss Missouri 2015 and will now compete in the coming edition of Miss America 2017.
Erin O’Flaherty is the first ever openly gay woman to be named Miss Missouri. On being openly gay woman, Erin reflected just after being crowned as Miss Missouri 2016, “My coming out was very public, which was hard because you want it to be very private. The public access to that was very challenging because I wanted to protect my relationship, and who I am and come to terms with myself before the rest of the world got a chance to. It’s a big deal for me to go openly and lay it all out there.”
Erin O’Flaherty, hails from South Carolina and her platform at Miss America 2017 is suicide prevention.
Missouri has produced one Miss America through Debbye Turner, who was crowned Miss America 1990, but they have had a number of runners-up and semi-finalists. Do you think the newly crowned Miss Missouri 2016, Erin O’Flaherty can be next Miss America?
